Here at Infinite, we help you access this relief with confidence. Our team works with you to identify eligible activities, prepare the necessary technical and financial documentation, and ensure your claim is fully aligned with Revenue’s guidelines. We simplify the process, maximise your return, and keep compliance at the core of every claim.

R&D TAX CREDITS

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Infinite’s R&D Tax Credits service.

What is the Irish R&D Scheme?
The Irish R&D Scheme is a 30% tax credit for companies undertaking qualifying research and development activities in Ireland or the EEA. It’s designed to support innovation and technological advancement.
Who can claim R&D Tax Credits?
Any company subject to Irish Corporation Tax that undertakes eligible R&D activities, regardless of its size or industry, can make a claim.
What qualifies as R&D?
To qualify, activities must:

- Seek scientific or technological advancement
- Involve systematic investigation or experimentation
- Address scientific or technological uncertainty
- This includes basic research, applied research, and experimental development.
What costs qualify for R&D?
Eligible costs include:

- Staff salaries directly involved in R&D
- Materials and consumables
- Plant and machinery used for R&D
- Overheads (on an apportioned basis)
- Subcontracted R&D (subject to limits)
How is the credit paid?
Dependant on the benefit size, companies will either receive 1 payment, or 3 annual instalments. It can be offset against Corporation Tax or refunded if unused.
What is the Pre-Filing Notification?
From 1 January 2024, first-time claimants (or those who haven’t claimed in 3 years) must notify Revenue at least 90 days before making a claim via MyEnquiries on ROS.
What documentation is required?
You must maintain detailed technical and financial records to demonstrate:

- The nature of the R&D work
- The scientific/technological uncertainties addressed
- How costs were calculated

This is essential for compliance and audit readiness.
Can SMEs and Start-ups claim?
Yes, the credit is available to all qualifying companies, including small businesses and start-ups. Refunds can provide vital cash flow support.
What if my R&D is outside of Ireland?
R&D carried out in Europe or the UK may qualify, provided that the expenditure is not used to claim the relief in another country.
How can I ensure compliance?
Our team is made up of tax and technical experts that ensure your claim meets Revenue’s strict criteria.
How is Infinite different from other firms?

Unlike other firms, we concentrate solely on R&D Tax Credits, allowing us to dive deeper into the nuances of each client’s work.
